Over the past 15 years, we have seen many phones try to dominate the marketplace. The market was initially owned by Nokia, then Motorola had a huge share , but when 2005 came, we had two big fish who started a digital war.

We are, of course, referring to Apple and Samsung. In the very beginning, Apple did what they always do and they managed to revolutionise the product they were working on, and the IPhone was no exception. One problem apple faced though was there would always be some people out there that deemed their prices to be way too high.

After a few years of this happening, samsung caught wind and eventually realised they could produce incredible smartphones, that in many cases offered more than Apple and IOS.

Now, over the years, there has been much back and forth and it seemed that both Apple, and Samsung had developed a large and incorrigible fan base, but there was trouble on the horizon.

What many consumers failed to realise is that Samsung were playing a long term game. While they started off selling at half the price of Apple phones, they always had a plan in mind. It seems that Samsung took to dirty marketing and while building trust and a loyal following, they started to bump up their prices, and now many Samsung phones are more expensive than the competition.

But Wait…This Is Where Things Get Interesting.

It seems that in the smartest of moves, there have been some companies watching in the background, and they have now managed to make a name for themselves with very little effort.

Over the past 5 years, people have become increasingly disheartened in the larger companies and started to experiment with some of the smaller ones, and let us tell you, the little guys are really starting to gain some steam.

Let’s look at why Samsung & Apple should be worried shall we?

If you take a look at this review of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 you will find that not only does the phone rate higher than most Samsungs in almost every review, it also comes in at just under £200.

Yet again, if you take a look at the Huawei P Smart phones, you are also getting incredible value for money at a fraction of the price. In truth, you could try any of these:

  1. Oppo A5 2020
  2. Moto G7 Power
  3. Huawei P Smart
  4. Honor 10 Lite
  5. Motorola One Macro
  6. Realme 3 Pro
  7. Redmi Note 7
  8. Moto E6 Plus
  9. Nokia 4.2
  10. Redmi 7A

And you would not be disappointed. Now, you are probably thinking to yourself “what does any of this have to do with Apple or Samsung, well, here’s the shocker.

It has been found that over the last 3 years, both Apple and Samsung lifetime users have abandoned their loyalties for a company like the ones shown above.

In the last 3 years, both Apple & Samsung have lost around 1% of their following per year and 2020 looks to provide an even bigger drop for most.

Our Pick

If we were forced to pick one company you should be looking out for it would be Realme, they have produced some stunning quality high-grade tech at the moment, and trust us when we say that 2021 is going to be a huge year for them.

They are releasing the x50 pro and it’s set to be a monster. This “budget” phone will be under £500 and boast:

Snapdragon 865 5G – Charges from 0-100% in 35 minutes – 90Hz amoled screen – 64MP quad back cameras – Dual front cameras – Vapor Cooling.

Need we say anymore?

So What’s The Conclusion?

Well, like the fables of old, we are sure that there is a lesson to be learned by both tech giants here, but we all know that these lessons are never learned until it’s too late

Our advice to you is, while these names may not be as big as some of the giants, a lot of the time, it’s what’s on the inside that counts, and these companies are really providing some incredible smartphones that are in some cases leaving the bigger companies baffled.

2020 has been a year where things have really changed, and now people are starting to look at how much value they are truly getting. In our opinion here at PC Support Midland, watch out for some of these little guys, they are seriously going to be bringing out some amazing tech.
